You booked your holiday ages ago. You’ve been packed at least a week. It’s time to jet off tomorrow. There’s nothing that can go wrong now, is there? You’d be surprised! There are a few last minute preparations that you should carry out before you leave for your vacations. If you forget, you could face a big delay getting anywhere. So what should you do in the week before your break? Here’s a handy checklist!

Organize Passports and Documents

It’s time to get all your passports and travel documents out and packed into your hand luggage. Hopefully, you will have checked that your passports are still valid. If not and they are out of date, it could be too late to renew them! Keep your booking confirmations for any hotels and flights with your passports so you don’t lose anything. If you are required to have a visa to enter your destination, place your proof that you have one with all your other documents as well. Don’t pack any of these documents right at the bottom of your hand luggage. Keep them towards the top so you can find them quickly when you need them.

Airport Parking

If you have a flight booked and are traveling to the airport by car, you will need to drop your car off in the parking lot. Usually, this needs to be booked in advance. More often than not, it is a lot cheaper if you book your space a couple of months in advance. However, you can still leave it until a couple of days before if you forget. It’s a good idea not to turn up without having booked a spot, in case the parking lot is full. You can see price estimates on airport websites like airport parking.

Get Your Shots And Medication

If you are traveling to a tropical country, you may need to get shots and medication to protect you from diseases and illnesses. Most of the common shots protect against yellow fever, hepatitis A, and typhoid. If you are traveling to a country where malaria is present, you will have to take anti malaria tablets with you to take while you are there. You need to check with your doctor about when you should get your shots. Some have to be taken a couple of months in advance while you can wait for a couple of weeks before you leave for some.

Prepare Your Home

No matter how long you will be away for, don’t forget to prepare your home for your absence. Any pets will need to be taken care of. Electronic appliances such as TVs and lights should be turned off and unplugged. As you are leaving, double check that you have locked all the doors and windows. If you are away for more than a week, ask a friend or relative to check your property while you are away to make sure no one has tried to break in.

These simple preparations can help your journey get off to a very smooth start!
