Bali is worldwide famous for its white sand beaches and romantic atmosphere. It is also known as the Island of the Gods, and you can admire its great landscape with volcanic mountains to infinitive rice terraces.

On my first visit to this popular island, I was not there for its renowned beaches or great night life. I wanted to live the greatest scuba dive experience in Lombok area.

As I was unfamiliar with the island, I had a contact with a dive School, as well as personalized diving tours. I wanted to be taught by the greatest instructor for my very first time.

The first diving

My first diving took place at Tulamben, just a couple of hours drive from a private villa Bali is really famous for. This area is really famous for its wreck diving. This place is also suitable for beginners, but the shore entering may be a challenge as the crashing waves make it really hard to stand still and follow your instructor.

The cool waters were a home to various sea creatures from parrotfish, yellow box fish, octopus and barracudas. Due to the crystal clear waters, I was able to see all these beautiful creatures from 20 meters away!

We battled a slight surge and swung from side to side like an underwater pendulum, but we took less than ten minutes to reach a tiny rock formation known for its enormous beauty.

I dove into the water and after a couple of minutes I spotted a sea turtle and an octopus that was trying to reach the sandy bottom. I continued swimming and then I saw the famous devilfish! I was really excited that one of my dreams was finally true. I wanted to come to Bali for scuba diving all of my life and I finally made it! I was so excited to take a photo that I swam too close and almost touched one of them! Both I and the devilfish decided to change our route!

These beautiful sea creatures are weighing more than two pounds but even though they look mean, they are actually harmless to humans, so you do not have anything to worry about.

On our way back, we decided to make a stop for the final dive at an area called Crystal Bay. This place is really famous for its crystal clear waters and the rich coral life. It can be found on the south west of Nusa Penida and is really a great opportunity to get in touch with this amazing underwater environment.

The Crystal Bay is not only chosen for the clearest waters you can find on the island. Crystal Bay is also a home for the famous oceanic sun fish. This fish which can reach a size of almost 5 meters is the heaviest bony fish ever found, that is fed only with jellyfish.

The waters here were not pretty much what I was expected. The temperature at first was at the point that we could handle it but after a while, it became extremely cold. It was pretty hard to swim but everyone was trying not to think of this fact because we all wanted to see the famous fish. After almost half an hour, I finally saw my new friend! It was so amazing and I didn’t want to miss a thing from this moment. I didn’t want to take photos or something like that. I was staring the way it was moving.

My first scuba diving experience could not have ended in a greater way. After I got out of the boat, I felt different. I felt richer and wiser.
