Autumn is the perfect season to take a much-needed break and head out to a campground where you can forget about everything for a while and connect with the natural world again. The air is cool and smells of the trees as they shed their leaves, the sun shines brightly in a clear blue sky, and beauty surrounds you everywhere you go during this popular season. Read through the checklist below to plan for your autumn camping trip.

The Right Footwear

First off, you can’t wear sandals or old sneakers on a camping trip when you’ll be exposed to the elements and hiking along trails of varying levels of difficulty. Therefore, one of the most important items that you will need to pack for your camping trip is a sturdy pair of hiking boots. Opt for a pair that is waterproof, too, in case you have to walk through wet terrain or you find yourself in the rain. Click here for a few great styles and options that you can choose from.

The Right Clothes

In addition to footwear, you should pack several different articles of clothing. Checking the weather forecast ahead of time will help you choose what clothes to pack, but keep in mind that forecasts are not always accurate, and you may encounter unexpected weather conditions.

Pack a couple of pairs of comfortable jeans or workout pants, some t-shirts and tank tops, as well as long sleeved tops so that you can layer. Don’t forget to take a jacket that you can wear if the temperature drops at night, and pack multiple pairs of underwear and socks. You can also pack some scarves and hats for extra protection.

Tent and Sleeping Bag

If you are planning on roughing it and you are not going to be renting a cabin, you will need to pack a three-season tent and sleeping bag for optimal protection and comfort from the elements. Of course, you can store your backpack full of supplies in your tent, as well as all of your food.

First Aid Kit

When you are away from home and camping in the great outdoors, you will need to take care of yourself, but you can’t always avoid accidents and injuries. So it is a great idea to also pack a first aid kit that will have everything you need, from anti-bacterial ointment and bandages, to medications and disinfectants.

Food and Water

Make sure that you pack plenty of water, as you will need it for more than just drinking. You will need to have enough water for your coffee, as well as for cooking your food. In addition to water, though, pack food that won’t spoil and that you can easily cook over a campfire.  You could also bring a water filter to0 (read more here). And don’t forget your napkins and eating utensils.

With this handy camping checklist for an autumn break into the wilderness, you can be certain that you will pack everything that you need and that you will not leave anything of importance behind.
