I know a lot of people who adore seeing new countries, but absolutely hate flying! No, none of them have an irrational fear. The tiring journey from the airport entrance to the gate gets them stressed. The cabin decompressing gives them an annoying twinge in their ears. No matter how they position themselves, they can’t get to sleep when they want to. If you suffer from these kinds of problems, then this post is just for you. Here are some of the best ways to make flights more comfortable.

As you know, I write a lot of content centred around saving money for trips. However, if you really want a comfortable journey, I suggest looking at some business flights. They didn’t get their reputation for luxury out of thin air! If you’re stuck in economy, however, there are still a lot of things you can do to improve your experience. First of all, a good travel pillow can help a lot. The very term “travel pillow” makes these sound like a rip-off, I know. However, sleeping upright in a narrow plane seat can be near impossible without the right head support. You’ll be able to find a good travel pillow easily at the airport or online.

The other thing I can recommend taking is noise-cancelling earplugs or headphones. Since commercial airliners started, there’s been that cliché situation of sitting in front of a crying baby. I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced this yourself, but it’s not pleasant at all! To give you a better chance of a good night’s sleep, get some noise-cancelling earplugs. It’s advisable to go for a mid-price range here. The cheapest of earplugs will work like you putting your fingers in your ears. The more expensive ones will shut out even the most minuscule sound. Noise cancelling headphones are a little more universal in terms of quality. However, if your music is generally slow and chilled-out, it’s best to choose some more high-end phones.

If it’s not too late, take your time choosing your seat. Your choice of seat can mean the difference between having a peaceful flight or not. Try to get a window seat. Sitting here will ensure that you don’t have someone trying to get to the toilet shuffling past your lap and waking you up. By the same token, try to go for the aisle if you know you usually have to go to the toilet a lot! If you’re especially tall, try to get the exit seats. If you’re a little shorter, these seats still give you some extra room, but bear in mind that they don’t recline.

There’s not a lot which can make your flight a total breeze. Still, these tips can really make a difference to your comfort during the flight. I’m not prone to air sickness, but when I’ve been unlucky I’ve tried thinking of my destination. This usually eases my discomfort a little. After all, the flight isn’t the reason you got on the plane is it?
