No matter how busy your life is, there’s always time for a little romance. And what better way to indulge this than to plan a romantic getaway for you and your partner. Europe has some of the most beautiful and alluring destinations for lovers.

1. Santorini, Greece

A stay in one of the many Santorini villas will provide you with breathtaking views and the space to spend time together in luxurious surroundings. Due to its beautiful scenery and world-renowned sunsets, Santorini has long been a destination for couples. A volcanic eruption in the 16th century has shaped its rugged landscape, where dazzling white villages perch on the edge of clifftops overlooking the Aegean Sea.

Oia and Fira are both celebrated as the best spots to enjoy the magnificent sunsets. But for maximum romance, view it from it from the ocean itself onboard a yacht.

2. Ljubljana, Slovenia

Ljubljana is Slovenia’s capital city. It is a quiet and peaceful city and ideal for couples. In 2016 it awarded the coveted Green Capital of Europe Award by the European Commission. Cars are restricted to the city center, leaving the banks of the Ljubljanica River for pedestrians and cyclists.

Enjoy the beautiful architecture, museums and restaurants. This destination doesn’t always appear in romantic getaway lists, so enjoy it before it becomes popular.

3. London

London conjures up images of cobbled streets, fog and a mysterious river that weaves in and out of the city. With the possible exception of the fog, this is all true, and it makes for a cozy city break. Walk along the South Bank, enjoy a pint in front of a roaring fire at a local hostelry and eat in one of the city’s world-renowned restaurants.

For something a little different, book a walking tour in Hampstead or one of the many localities. Guided tour operators will provide the history, and you can discover some hidden gems as you become better acquainted with this historical city. It’s also only a train ride away from the rest of the UK, should you wish to explore.

4. Kraków, Poland

Kraków is a beautiful city, steeped in history and mythology. Enjoy its beautiful buildings and lively squares. Wawel Castles is a popular destination; as is the Old Town with its churches, museums and market square. Walk around Planty Park and look for traces of the old city walls.

Kraków is close to the border of the Czech Republic. Combine your holiday with a trip to Prague, by taking the night train.

5. Jukkasjärvi, Sweden

Jukkasjärvi is 200km north of the Arctic Circle and the best time to visit is during the winter months. Enjoy walking around this beautiful village and visit Jukkasjärvi Church. This is one of the oldest churches in Lapland and is made out of wood.

There’s lots to do here, including romantic wilderness tours, where you will travel by dog sled and sleep in a log cabin in the middle of the Lappish wilderness. If you’re lucky, you’ll get to experience the magnificent Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. This makes the perfect cozy winter destination and is ideal for couples.
